Food Bank for the Heartland's BackPack Program is designed to provide weekend meals for children whose families have limited resources. Childhood hunger has risen across the Heartland with 1 in 5 children experiencing food insecurity.

Each week during the school year, easy-to-prepare or ready-to-eat nutritious food is distributed to 8,404 children in 245 schools in Nebraska and western Iowa. These meals nourish children over the weekend, so they can come back to school ready to learn.
